Health History: Over 112 years of excellence!
Fortis
owns Fortis Health, a Wisconsin based health insurance company and
market leader providing coverage for individuals, small business and the
specialty insurance market. Although Fortis Health has changed its name
throughout its history, the Milwaukee company has been rooted in the
local community for a century. Formed in LaCrosse, WI as the LaCrosse
Mutual Aide Association in 1892, the company moved to Milwaukee in 1900
and changed its name to time Insurance Company. In 1978, the company was
purchased as the first North American global expansion acquisition by
the Dutch AMEV organization. With the international merger that created
Fortis in 1990, the local Milwaukee insurer became part of the growing
Fortis family. In 1998 Time Insurance officially changed its name to
Fortis Health.
